Canal Convergence
Through November 12
Playful art that merges color, water and light will illuminate the Arizona Canal this fall. It’s a pizza paradise as slices and full pies of all types are available to pair with craft beer and wine at this tasty festival. Step into the autumn running season on the right foot with this flat and fast race through downtown Phoenix. Start simple with a 5K, go the distance with the 10K or challenge yourself with a half-marathon distance. No matter what length you choose, you can’t lose with a medal and a party waiting for you at the finish line. Steel Magnolias

Don’t forget to bring plenty of tissues to this show about a group of small-town Southern women who share an unbreakable bond, despite their various backgrounds and struggles. Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill

Pioneering chanteuse Billie Holiday sings and tells stories about her life – and becomes increasingly inebriated and incomprehensible – in a raggedy Philadelphia bar, just months before her untimely death in 1959. “The North Star Changes: Works by Brenda Mallory”

“Everything has multiple uses” is the theme of this exhibition by award-winning artist Brenda Mallory, and “even something as permanent as the North Star can be altered.” For Mallory, fabric dipped in beeswax can become a living organism full of color, texture and patterns. 27th Annual Hidden in the Hills
