The Beauty of Water Equals its Importance
“Water asks you to slow down,” observes environmental steward and photographer Jim Dublinski. “With this image, I wanted the viewer to move from the energy of the falling water into the quieter details—the plants clinging to the canyon walls,” he says of this shot he captured at Deer Creek in the Grand Canyon in March 2026. “The composition is meant to highlight not just the waterfall, but what it makes possible. It brings a sense of calm, but also awareness. Places like this endure only if they’re looked after.
“Water is foundational,” he continues. “Plants and animals can only exist where water persists. That makes each spring, seep or waterfall disproportionately important. These are small systems, but they support entire communities of life. For me, the beauty of these places is inseparable from their importance.”
