FUN FACT: Arizona’s Montezuma Castle National Monument is a daring example of pre-Columbian building techniques. Constructed over three centuries, the Sinagua people employed early stone-and-mortar masonry, using chunks of limestone and clay from Beaver Creek to erect a multistory cliff dwelling that was well-fortified against enemies and seasonal flooding.
