FUN FACT: Surrealist painter Philip C. Curtis, often called the “Magritte of the Old West,” founded an arts center in Arizona in 1937, which later became the Phoenix Art Museum in 1959. An exhibition of Curtis’ works, many of which depict fantastical scenes of exaggerated figures in Victorian dress, is on permanent display in the museum.
