Meet the Women-Owned Decor Brand Preserving Artisan Traditions

Concetta Bondi first saw the eye-catching, rich ebony pottery from Oaxacan artisans while traveling in Mexico. It was that experience and connecting with the women who crafted this pottery that left a lasting impression on Bondi and Mariana Narvaez. They founded the luxury decor brand P A L O S A N T O in 2021 and have been growing their collection of hand-crafted goods, including that barro negro pottery. Over the summer, the brand has expanded those offerings to include gifts, such as matte black trays and mezcal cups, small cups for drinking the agave spirit. The founders aim to connect the old with the new.
“Each piece we select or design tells a story, preserving time-honored craftsmanship while reimagining it for modern living,” Bondi says.
The co-founder shared the latest with P A L O S A N T O, what they’re working on heading into 2025 and the trends they’re watching.
Tell readers about P A L O S A N T O.
P A L O S A N T O decor is a luxury interiors brand specializing in handcrafted, one-of-a-
kind objects and accessories designed to elevate the everyday. Made by female master
artisans in Mexico using sustainable practices and locally sourced materials, each piece is a
work of art, blurring the lines between utilitarian and decorative.
Our collection features original, limited-production designs and hand-selected pieces that
showcase Mexico’s rich artisanal heritage and the beauty of natural materials fused with
contemporary design. As a women-owned brand, we are dedicated to supporting female
artisans and women-led studios, promoting ethical and sustainable employment while
safeguarding these traditions for future generations.
What’s your approach to home decor and design?
Our approach to home decor and design is rooted in the fusion of tradition and modernity.
We are drawn to pieces that honor Mexico’s rich cultural heritage by utilizing raw, natural
materials and ancient techniques, many of which date back to pre-Hispanic times. At the
same time, we embrace contemporary aesthetics, creating a balance between the old and the
new. Each piece we select or design tells a story, preserving time-honored craftsmanship
while reimagining it for modern living.

You partner with female artisans – who are they and why do you want to amplify their work?
We proudly collaborate with master female artisans from small, family-owned studios across
Mexico. These women, ranging from loom weavers in the mountains of Central Mexico to
barro potters in Oaxaca, are true keepers of their region’s rich cultural and artisanal heritage.
By amplifying their work, we aim to showcase their extraordinary craftsmanship and preserve centuries-old techniques, while also supporting their economic empowerment and creative independence. Our partnerships are a celebration of their artistry and a commitment to sustaining these invaluable traditions for future generations.
What’s your process for finding the right partners to collaborate with?
We conduct thorough research across various workshops, ensuring that the pieces we offer
are of the highest quality. It’s important that we share the same vision when it comes to
presenting our clients with pieces that tell a story and reflect Mexico’s rich cultural heritage.
We make it a point to personally meet the artisans, fostering close relationships with them,
which allows for a more creative and collaborative process when designing new pieces. Our
partnerships go beyond just business; they are built on shared values and a commitment to
preserving craftsmanship and tradition.

What are you working on heading into 2025?
We’re thrilled to kick off 2025 with a new collection of handcrafted barro clay lighting, made
to order in a range of colors. We’re launching this exciting new category alongside one of our favorite local designers, Smyth House Interiors. Together, we’re offering a beautiful blend of
tradition and modern design through this collection. Stay tuned!
What design trends are you predicting, or highlighting, for 2025?
For 2025, we’re predicting a continued focus on eco-friendly, sustainable and textured
materials. Natural fibers, recycled textiles and organic materials will be more prevalent,
combining aesthetic appeal with eco-conscious living.
We’re also seeing a rise in warm, earthy tones—think terracotta, ochre, beige and warm
greens. These grounded hues create a cozy, calming atmosphere and complement a wide
range of design elements, reflecting a shift towards more authentic, lived-in spaces. Dusky
pinks, espresso browns and earthy neutrals will be key in this trend.
Bespoke furniture and accessories is another highlight for 2025, as more of our clients are
searching for personalized pieces that reflect their individual needs and tastes. This trend
emphasizes thoughtful, customized design and an increased appreciation for craftsmanship.
Overall, the design landscape is moving toward more personalized, sustainable and artistic
expressions, creating spaces that are both comforting and meaningful.
