Grilling season is upon us as the Arizona heat gives way to cooler days and nights. Stacey Weber, former executive chef for the Arizona Cardinals and owner of EAT by Stacey Weber, shared with us a homemade barbecue sauce recipe that makes a sweet, smokey complement to everything from grilled chicken and ribs to burgers and brisket.

Homemade Bourbon Barbecue Sauce

Serves 8 (16 cups)

8 cups ketchup

4 cups bourbon

1.5 cups brown sugar

1.5 cups molasses

1.5 cups apple cider vinegar

1 cup Worcestershire sauce

1/2 cup Dijon mustard

4 tablespoons liquid smoke

8 teaspoons onion powder

8 teaspoons garlic powder

3 teaspoons crushed red pepper

4 teaspoons ground black pepper

Bring all ingredients to a boil in saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat; simmer until sauce is reduced, about 10 minutes. Store leftover barbecue sauce in a sealed container for up to 1-2 weeks.
