Inside My Sister’s Closet’s Chic New Location at Biltmore Fashion Park

My Sister’s Closet has gotten a chic new upgrade. The luxury consignment boutique opened its 12th location at Biltmore Fashion Park and now has a high-fashion aesthetic to match its curated collection of secondhand women’s couture. “The new store is very clean in its design,” says CEO and founder Ann Siner of the contemporary, light-filled space. “It is different in that it is smaller than any of our other locations and has a boutique feel. The feedback is positive. Even after being in business for 30 years just down the street, we are seeing many new customers who have never shopped with us before.”
Siner shared with us her favorite things about My Sister’s Closet’s new retail space and reflected on 30 years in the consignment industry.
What made you decide on Biltmore Fashion Park?
We chose Biltmore Fashion Park simply because it is one of the toniest centers in the entire Southwest. We are truly honored to have a store in this center next to the likes of Saks and Ralph Lauren and some of the best restaurants in the Valley.

What has the customer feedback been like for the new space?
Customers love—literally LOVE—the new location. Even after being in business for 30 years just down the street, we are seeing many new customers that have never shopped with us before.
What was the inspiration for the store’s interior design?
The new store is very clean in its design. Simple black and white with touches of bright color. Gold clothing racks. Oversized hangers. Well-lit cases for purses and jewelry. Just like our first boutique in 1991, it does not look like a “resale” store. My sister, Tess, designed the space. She does all of our design work, including our personal homes. She is our CFO—Chief Fashion Officer.

After 30 years in business, how has retail consignment changed?
Consignment has gone from people not wanting to admit they shop or consign for used items to becoming a bragging right: “I bought my entire outfit for $50 at My Sister’s Closet. If I bought it new it would have cost me $300!” These are the kinds of stories we hear daily.
What are some of the biggest shopping trends right now?
It’s all about home. People have become very casual in their lifestyles. Suits and high heels are difficult to sell in 2021. Furniture and home furnishings literally fly out the door.

Who is your favorite fashion designer?
My personal favorite designer is Loro Piana. The quality of the items are unrivaled. Go buy something for yourself from this designer!
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is simple. I would rather put on a pair of jeans and a fun jacket and be done. I’ve never been a fancy person and seldom even wear makeup.

What’s your favorite styling tip?
My top styling tip comes from a person that struggles to be stylish. I use a style board and clip ads and photos for both clothing and home styles to copy.
What is the most coveted item in your closet and why?
The most coveted item in my closet is my designer handbag collection. I have some Louis Vuitton bags and totes that are rare finds. And some collectible Judith Leiber animal bags because I truly love animals more than anything.
What else is on the horizon for My Sister’s Closet?
What’s next? Let me just say, hold on to your seat! We’re not slowing down. Surprises are on the way. Watch for a focus on men’s items in 2022, plus new stores.
