Honoring Design Innovation: The Best of KBIS Awards

Here are the award-winning kitchen and bath products unveiled at the 2020 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show.

By Rebecca L. Rhoades

The Best of KBIS Awards recognize the most groundbreaking new kitchen and bath products introduced each year. “The awards continue to shine a light on the breadth of innovation launched at the event,” says Amy Hornby, KBIS show director. “We are proud to provide the platform that brings well-deserved recognition to those raising the bar within the kitchen and bath industries.”

Following are the winners of the 2020 Best of KBIS Awards.

Best of Show: Kintsu Bath Collection

Inspired by aesthetics in the Japandi style—an interplay of Scandinavian and Japanese influences—this elevated line of faucets, tub fillers and showerheads brings a new level of architectural creativity to the bath through tranquil contours and broken lines. Multiple configurations include a single-handle faucet, a multifunction hand shower with pivoting spray face and a floor-mount tub filler with optional tray, dish and wine glass holder accessories. The collection can be personalized with custom knob handle inlays made of natural materials, such as mother-of-pearl, teak and concrete. Available in four luxurious finishes, including Black Onyx (shown). Prices vary. (brizo.com)

Kitchen Gold: Plum

Created for oenophiles who prefer to savor their vintages, this tabletop dispenser chills, serves and preserves two 750-milliliter bottles for up to 90 days. Simply load the unopened bottles, and Plum’s patented double-cored needle will pierce through the cork or cap, extracting the wine while injecting argon gas to prevent oxidation. A color touch screen displays the vintage, varietal, region and winery of each bottle. Tap “pour,” and the system will serve a 1-ounce sample or a full 5-ounce glass. $2,500 (plum.wine)

Kitchen Silver: Miele G7000 Dishwasher

Washing dishes has never been easier, thanks to Miele’s self-dosing technology, AutoDos. Insert a PowerDisk, which contains an all-in-one granular detergent with rinse aid, into the door panel, and the machine automatically dispenses the precise amount of cleaning agent needed, depending on the selected program and degree of soiling. An app allows users to monitor the dishwasher and provides alerts when detergent is low. $2,999 (g7000.miele.com)

Bath Gold: GE UltraFresh Front Load Washer

Designed to prevent the growth of bacteria that can cause odors and lead to mold, this machine uses a first-of-its-kind antimicrobial technology to keep the washer fresh and clean. When your wash is done, activate the UltraFresh vent system with OdorBlock, which periodically rotates the basket, pulling fresh air into the washer and eliminating moisture. Choose from Diamond Gray, white or this year’s hottest color, Sapphire Blue. $1,100 (geappliances.com)

Smart Home Technology: U by Moen Smart Faucet

This voice-activated faucet takes hands-free convenience to the next level. Using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, users can start and stop the flow of water with a simple command. With a few words, the faucet dispenses the perfect amount—as small as one tablespoon to as large as 15 gallons—and temperature—precise (90 degrees) or generic (hot)—of water. The Moen smartphone app allows you to set unlimited personalized presets. A Wave Sensor and handle offers both touchless and manual operation. $430 (moen.com)

Bath Silver: DUW Series—Wall Recessed Linear Floor Drain

The sleek minimalist design of this wall-mounted linear drain is nearly invisible, blending into your shower’s beauty. Crafted of heavy-duty stainless steel with a cover plate that accepts any tile or stone material to match the wall surround, the easily accessible and cleanable drain collects less hair and soap build-up. Available in standard and custom configurations. Starting at $348. (drains-unlimited.com)

Impact Award: Rainfinity

This Euro-style shower system provides the ultimate relaxation experience. The adjustable, concave-shaped PowderRain jet, available in overhead and hand-held configurations, disperses ultrasoft microdroplets that cocoon the entire body in comfort and warmth. Turn the system on and off, change spray modes and control volume and temperature with the sleek RainSelect shower trim. Three modern color finishes—matte white, chrome and brushed nickel—match any bath decor. Prices vary. (hansgrohe.com)
