Editor’s Letter: Masters of the Southwest 2025

Welcome to the 2025 Masters of the Southwest issue. This year marks the 35th anniversary of this award, which we are proud to say has become the gold standard in the Valley, with 314 recipients as of this printing. When past honorees talk about receiving this designation, they frequently get emotional and speak of a profound impact, a watershed moment, a turning point that they will always remember. This means a lot to us here at Phoenix Home & Garden.

There are many aspects that define what makes a Master of the Southwest. True passion for their chosen profession, longevity in the Valley, the unwavering respect of clients, peers and the design community and, certainly, a singular level of talent and excellence. Simply put, these individuals are the best at what they do. Without them, the Valley would be a different place.

It is our pleasure to introduce you to the 2025 inductees: Architects and developers David Hovey Sr. and David Hovey Jr; architect Jim Blochberger, interior designer Holly Wright, designer Louise McDermott and conservationist Jim Dublinski. We’ve gotten to know them in the past couple of months, and we are confident you will be inspired by their stories and join us in celebrating their achievements.
