Luxe American outdoor living designer unveils new rug collection 

Brown Jordan has crafted luxe outdoor furniture for eight decades. Now, the maker, who has a Scottsdale showroom, has stretched beyond sleek chaises, smart dining sets and elegant umbrellas to include the item that ties a space together: rugs. Brown Jordan’s collection features 11 designs with a natural color palette and durable fabrics that can withstand the desert’s scorching rays. The new collection was a “natural evolution,” says Ben Collins, Brown Jordan’s president.  

“Rugs are essential to defining space, adding comfort and grounding furniture,” he adds. 

Collins shared more about Brown Jordan’s new collection and how to make the most of it in your outdoor space. 

After 80 years in business, why did you want to add rugs to your outdoor offerings? 

Adding rugs was a natural evolution for Brown Jordan. Designers create complete environments, and rugs are essential to defining space, adding comfort and grounding furniture. This collection allows us to offer a more cohesive outdoor room solution while expanding our role as a full lifestyle partner for outdoor design. 

This rug collection represents how Brown Jordan continues to evolve after eight decades in the industry. We are committed to innovating thoughtfully, expanding categories with intention, and delivering design-led solutions that support how people live outdoors today and into the future. 

What inspired the colorways and design of the rugs in this collection? 

The designs draw inspiration from natural landscapes, architectural elements and interior textiles. Colorways were intentionally curated to coordinate with Brown Jordan’s signature materials, including our aluminum finishes, teaks and upholstery palettes, ensuring seamless integration across our collections without feeling overly decorative or overtly outdoor. 

What materials have you used to help these rugs last in climates like Arizona? 

Performance was foundational to the design. These rugs are constructed using durable, outdoor-rated fibers selected for UV stability, abrasion resistance and long-term color retention. They are engineered to perform in high sun, dry and dusty environments while remaining easy to clean and maintain in residential and hospitality settings. 

What’s the most important thing people should consider when selecting an outdoor rug? 

The two most critical factors are performance and scale. A rug must suit the climate and level of traffic, but proper sizing is equally important for anchoring furniture and defining the space. The right rug brings clarity, balance, and intention to an outdoor environment. 

What outdoor design trends are you predicting for the coming year? 

Outdoor design continues to move closer to interior design, with greater emphasis on layering, texture and complete room planning. Designers are using rugs, lighting and accessories more strategically to create outdoor spaces that feel refined, personalized and livable rather than purely functional.
