The Stella Artois Derby DayClub: Presented By Sanderson Lincoln

It’s that time of year when we put on our Derby best, sip a mint julep and watch the most exciting two minutes in sports. The Derby DayClub event is the next best thing to being at Churchill Downs on race day, with live racing and betting, refreshing cocktails and some of the best food trucks in the Valley. Cosanti Tile-making experiences
May 4
In this hands-on class, instructors will guide guests through the exceptional tile-making and design process developed by The Cosanti Foundation and used every day by the artisans of Cosanti Originals. Each tile-making experience begins at 10 a.m. with an introductory tour of the iconic property that was once the gallery, studio and residence of famed Italian-American architect Paolo Soleri. The session concludes at 1 p.m. with a photo session of participants and their clay tiles, which will be lightly glazed and fired, then shipped directly to the attendees. $125 per person. 6433 E. Carolina Aranibar-Fernández: Oleaje

The hidden consequences of exploiting natural resources are depicted in the San Francisco-based artist’s exhibition using intensive processes, including etching, sewing, cutting and printing. Barbie: A Cultural Icon

On the heels of the hit movie, the Phoenix Art Museum’s exhibition, created by Illusion Projects and Mattel, Inc., gives visitors a real sense of the doll’s place in art, design and pop culture over decades. Dorothy Fratt: Color Mirage

The term “underrated” gets needlessly thrown around, but it certainly applies to Valley painter Dorthy Fratt. The artist helped commission the public sculpture “Windows to the West” by Louise Nevelson in Scottsdale while her work blazed its own trail in abstraction. “Color Mirage” is the first U.S. exhibition celebrating her art, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.
