Sustainable patio furniture dealer Yardbird landed in Arizona last year with a showroom in Scottsdale. Just south of Kierland Commons, the showroom has a variety of Yardbird’s outdoor collections on display, including sectionals, dining sets, chaise lounges and fire tables. Yardbird also has an in-house design team to help customers design their outdoor oases. The company focuses on sustainability by using plastics that would have ended up in the ocean, recyclable packaging whenever possible and partnering with The Carbon Fund to offset the carbon footprint created by transportation, delivery and daily business operations.

“We’ve really focused on the environmental impact of our furniture, and it’s especially reflected in the design of our wicker furniture, as it’s entirely made from plastic that would’ve otherwise ended up in the ocean,” says Yardbird cofounder Jay Dillon.

With the addition of Yardbird, the Valley is getting more sustainable patio furniture options. Just in time for Earth Day, here are four brands that will look great in your outdoor space and are good for the environment.

Yardbird has several collections for your patio and pool, as well as options for a variety of design aesthetics. “We know Phoenix-area residents love spending time outdoors and that they were looking for more affordable and environmentally conscious options to outfit their outdoor living spaces,” Dillon says. “We saw a big opportunity to bring Yardbird to Scottsdale and give shoppers the chance to see and try out the furniture firsthand.” The company uses premium teak wood, aluminum frames and recycled plastics for its furniture. Founded in 2020 in Phoenix by three friends and former coworkers, Neighbor offers modern, modular seating and dining furniture made with FSC-certified teak and durable Sunbrella fabrics. Its collection includes customizable sectional seating, solid teak Adirondack chairs designed just for kids and rugs woven from recycled plastic. Though you can order products directly online (with free shipping and a 45-day trial period), you can also make an appointment to visit their downtown Phoenix headquarters and test out the furniture yourself.

Working to combat the waste of fast furniture, Outer uses materials like FSC-certified teak, recycled plastics and recyclable materials like aluminum. Outer offers protection to help your seat cushions last longer with its waterproof and UV-resistant outer shell. In addition to seating and dining options, Outer offers firepits and accessories like bug-resistant blankets. Though there’s no formal Outer showroom in the Valley, the brand connects potential buyers with current owners who open their patios to showcase the furniture.
