History: After a career in the pharmaceutical industry, Scott Hunter says he shifted to selling home decor to follow his lifelong passion for interior design. Scott and partner Ron Hunter developed the concept for their shop while living in San Francisco. When Scott retired, the pair moved to Arizona and opened Compliments in fall 2007.

Philosophy: “The bottom line is the wow factor,” Scott explains. Details are important to these entrepreneurs, who have been known to personally deliver bedding to clients, press and primp the linens, and take a photograph of the finished product to serve as a reference for home-owners. “Our goal is to make you thrilled—not happy—thrilled,” Scott says.
What’s in store: The showroom is brimming with unique treasures, including an Italian-made line of Egyptian cotton sheets that Scott designed. You also can find the Bella Notte bedding line, which is available in 24 colors, 100-percent bamboo DreamSacks sheets, and Mastro Raphaël Italian linens. Hand-blown glass vases and decorative pieces from Romania and Murano glass light fixtures also are on display. A 128-piece Dale Chihuly-inspired blown-glass chandelier, which comes in custom colors and sizes, catches the eye, as do oversized tassels, throw pillows, and brightly hued table linens from France. The store presents wares from local companies and from artisans as well, including custom pin-up boards, watercolor paintings, and multicolored quilts made by children from Rwanda; all of the profits from the decorative wall hangings are given to the African artists. Interior design and Christmas decorating services are available.
