History: For eight years, Debbie Frank worked in the furniture business, familiarizing herself with the qualities of various manufacturers and learning the ins and outs of the trade. Soon, people started taking notice of Frank’s keen eye for style, and one day last year a furniture industry executive who had taken the up-and-coming designer under his wing suggested she launch her own business. The prompting resulted in D. Frank Designs.
Philosophy: “I really saw the inspiration of fashion on furniture and combining them to bring that into the home,” says the store owner of her French couture-style boutique. “I’m trying to widen the consciousness of what is possible with design.”
What’s in store: Color meets hotel-inspired glamour at this shop, where, for example, a pillow designed by Frank shows off a hot-pink fabric on one side and a zebra print on the other. Mirrored side tables are mixed with table lamps sporting crushed-velvet shades, while classic-looking dining room chairs are given a Southwestern twist with the addition of nailhead trim. A variety of custom furnishings is available, including Frank’s own line, called The Collection. Other offerings range from rugs, vases and pop art-style paintings and prints to furniture reproductions based on French antiques.
