A New York City native, Gail Marcus-Orlen moved to Tucson in the late 1960s, and is best-known for the magical, dream-like worlds she creates in her paintings. “Blue Life,” an oil on canvas, 42"H x 48"W, splits the planes of still-life and landscape, offering a bounty of colorful fruits and flowers. Her work is showcased in “New Earthly Delights: Mayme Kratz and Tim Lanterman, Flo Perkins, and Gail Marcus-Orlen,” through May 28, at Etherton Gallery in Tucson. The mixed-media painter creates semi-representational landscapes that offer a spontaneous and fresh approach to the Southwest terrain.

Lanning Gallery—431 S.R. 179, Sedona, (928) 282-6865. “Gregory Deane: Contemporary Energy” opens with an artist’s reception from 5 to 8 p.m. May 6, and continues through May 15. The renowned international abstract artist was the first American to have a solo show at the prestigious Accademia delle Arti del Disegno, founded in 1584 by Michelangelo, in Florence, Italy.

Legacy Gallery—7178 E. Main St., Scottsdale, (480) 945-1113. “Scotts-
dale Salon of Fine Art,” through May 19, is a national juried sale and exhibition showcasing more than 200 paintings. Kevin Beilfuss, C.M. Cooper, Robert Coombs, John DeMott, Daniel Gerhartz, Mike Malm, Robert Johnson, Sue Kyzyton and Charles Pabst are among the featured artists.

Level 9 Gallery—6047 E. Cave Creek Rd., Cave Creek, (480) 329-6118. “Investigate,” through May 15, showcases 12 satirical oil paintings by Lori Cowherd, who delves into the world of politics and high finance.

Lisa Sette Gallery—4142 N. Marshall Way, Scottsdale, (480) 990-7342. “William Wegman: A Thing or Two,” May 5-June 25, is an exhibition of unique color Polaroid photographs that give a nod to Mid-century Modern furniture design and aesthetic. The show includes a selection of Modern furniture on display May 5-11, in collaboration with Design Within Reach. An opening reception takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. May 5.
