Bold & BeautifulPaintings and clay pieces by Margarete Bagshaw are on display in “My Generation,” through June 6 at Smoki Museum of American Indian Art and Culture in Prescott.
Known for her bold colors, abstract shapes, Pueblo-like designs and distinctive textures, Bagshaw often works with micaceous clay, which features specks of sparkling mica. Pictured clockwise from top left are three of her micaceous pots: “All Me,” 6" high x 16" wide x 16" deep; “Praise for Pollock,” 7" high x 16" wide x 16" deep; and “Mother’s Gift,” 5" high x 14" wide x 15" deep. The pieces were incised with the intricate designs that have brought Bagshaw recognition, and, after firing, were painted with oil paint. The artist resides in Santa Fe, where she has her own gallery, the Golden Dawn.
The gallery features her work and that of her mother, Helen Hardin, and her grandmother, Pablita Velarde, both well-known artists. For more information, visit
