The exhibit includes works by artists from Argentina, China, Cuba, France, Guatemala, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Puerto Rico, Russia, South Africa, Spain and Vietnam, as well as artists from across the United States, including several Arizona artists.

The artist incorporates her knowledge of design into her paintings, which are extremely textural with a color palette that is vivid and dramatic with subtle contrasts.

ART WITH HEART

Emerging and established artists from Mexico are in the spotlight as Mesa Contemporary Arts in Mesa, Arizona, presents “Contemporary Artwork From Mexico,” Sept. 11-Jan. 3. Pictured is “Sagrada Corazón,” glass and mixed-media, 12" high x 8" wide, by brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre. Mountain Artists Gallery—228 N. Alarcon St., Prescott, mountainartistsguild.org, (928) 776-4009. “Spotlight Show on Bob Duncan,” through Sept. 11, features paintings of varied subjects and media on two-dimensional surfaces; “High Desert Discoveries Art Show,” through Sept. 12; “Bedazzled Fine Arts Show,” through Sept. 16, with functional, wearable and visual arts by Judd Lotts, Amari Magdalena and Thomas Restifo; and “Drawn to Water,” Sept. 25-Oct. 16, featuring oil paintings by G. Eric Slayton depicting scenes of rivers, oceans, streams and waterways. A reception for Slayton is planned from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25.

The Phippen Museum

The exhibit includes many new acquisitions to the museum’s collection, as well as works that have not been exhibited for some time. The museum also hosts its fifth-annual “Fall Gathering” from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 12, celebrating the original grand opening of Phippen Museum in 1984. The event includes live cowboy music and an authentic Western barbecue.

Phoenix Art Museum
