SQUARE DEALSanta Fe-based Stone Forest has
turned rapidly replenishable bamboo into its sleek Quattro Bamboo Vessel Sink. The product can be affixed to a countertop or to the company’s bamboo Bento Box and mounted to a wall, as shown here. The sink, made with inch-thick laminated bamboo, measures 4 inches from its top to the interior’s base. Pieces are joined together with mortise-and-tenon joinery. No metal screws are used.
The Bento Box also can be used for storage or put on casters to become a seat or side table. Both products are available through dealers, including Central Arizona Supply, (800) 416-6490, or ordered directly from Stone Forest. For details, call Stone Forest, (888) 682-2987, or visit

WORDS OF WISDOMDon’t know what to do with books after you’ve read them? In
The Salvage Studio: Sustainable Home Comforts to Organize, Entertain, and Inspire (Skipstone), authors Amy Duncan, Beth Evans-Ramos and Lisa Hilderbrand suggest making a collage with your favorite pages. “Combining pages in which the words address a single theme but come from different sources is an interesting way to approach a decoupage table,” the authors write.
The book invents new uses for conventional household items as well. Among dozens of ideas, metal sewing bobbins become innovative drawer pulls; magazine photographs embellish plain envelopes; worn chair springs make creative lighting fixtures; and Retro sugar bowls hold cotton balls in the bathroom. The how-to guide offers a list of tools and materials needed, as well as instructions for refurbishing worn wares.
You may see old junk in a whole new light after reading this crafty book. —Mary Modney
