It’s no secret to Arizona residents that the Valley is home to gifted performing and fine artists. With the naming of Mesa as one of the most artistic cities in the U.S. by travel company Expedia Inc., the world now knows, too. “Mesa has a long history of being a place that embraces a lot of creative people,” says Cindy Ornstein, director of arts and culture for the City of Mesa. “There is a feeling of possibility here.” Expedia called the Mesa Arts Center a “one-stop shop of creativity” while also recognizing Mesa Contemporary Arts, Mesa Community College Performing Arts Center, i.d.e.a. Museum and more than 200 public sculptures as the main contributors to the town’s vibrant arts scene. “I hope that we can continue to build on the foundation that we already have and keep it central to the identity of Mesa,” Ornstein says.
