New Native American Designs

Author: Shawndrea Corbin
Issue: March, 2014, Page 34

The markings of assorted Native American cultures have been abundant in Southwest decor for as long as any born-and-bred cowpoke can recall. From the bold geometric shapes of the Navajo, to the black-red-and-white motifs of the Zuni, these designs once were reserved for pottery and rugs. But a modern-day resurgence of Native American motifs has led to a bounty of items for the home sporting new twists on—and applications of—these vivid patterns. We found our own courtship with this regionally relevant trend rekindled as we gathered examples to share. It seems there’s more than ever to love about this icon of Southwest design.
