Mod Squad

At the height of its popularity in the 1970s, modular furniture, which is comprised of pieces that can be combined in various configurations, became a staple of family and living rooms across the land. Today, the same qualities that first scored it a place in our hearts and homes—its adaptability to almost any size space, myriad configurations, generous seating capacity and ability to engender conversation—are making it a top choice for outdoor living areas as well.

Crafted in everything from UV-resistant wicker and indestructible teak, to powder-coated aluminum and resin finishes that mimic leather, these moveable marvels are both durable and good-looking.

See examples of some innovative and multi-functional outdoor furniture combos on the pages ahead.

Constructed from wide strands of all-weather polyester woven over a powder-coated aluminum frame, the Source Collection from Gloster meshes the traditional look of wicker with Contemporary curves. Its frame comes in Creme or Shadow with strands offered in Malt (shown) or Noir.

Crafted from A-grade teak, the modular Spa Collection from Teak Warehouse has symmetrical lines and a Contemporary sensibility. It can be configured as large or small as your space allows, and comes with Sunbrella-covered cushions.
The Ocean Club Pacifica Collection from Tommy Bahama boasts a curvaceous shape. Although it looks like natural rattan, it is made of handwoven, all-weather synthetic wicker. The line includes both linear and curved sectionals and a matching cocktail table with or without a fire feature.

The Aman Dias Collection from Westminster Teak exudes style and sophistication. Its slender lines and low-profile frame integrate gracefully into nearly any setting. Made of premium teak, the collection is highly resistant to rotting, warping or splitting, allowing it to withstand the extremities of weather, including sun, rain, iceand snow.
Chic and sophisticated, the Echo Sectional from Link Outdoor offers 16 pieces that can be arranged in endless configurations. This tête- à-tête sofa was fashioned from two corner pieces and an ottoman. The collection comes in five finishes: Antique Bronze, Bone White, Gunmetal, Silver and Steel, and High-Polished Stainless Steel.

The Vista Collection from Gloster features powder-coated aluminum frames in a Frost or Tungsten finish. With the strong horizontal lines of its slatted back, the collection has the feel of classic poolside furniture. Sleek, angled legs lend a sexy kick. Water- and sun-resistant, the line includes corner and center units, an ottoman and a lounge chair.
