When interior designer Susan Komlos began designing the powder room of her home, she knew she wanted something unique. “I just thought an oval bathroom would be more interesting; I never wanted a plain rectangle,” she explains. Komlos designed the cantilevered Mexican travertine sink to work with the room. “I saw something like it in Europe once, so I drew what I wanted, which was an oval sink to go with an oval room.”

The bronze faucet appears to float above the sink, giving the room a clean elegance, while the dark finish of the sconces and custom mirror provide contrast to the pale travertine. Every feature of the room makes a statement, the designer says.

For the finishing touch, she used a glass-tile mosaic band bordered by a chocolate-color ceramic tile in lieu of crown molding, selecting gold mosaic tiles to match the flecks of gold and bronze in the sink. She also mixed her own paint to create a wall finish that suits the room perfectly.
