GETTING THE LOOK:
1. Trio of wavy panels
2. Macassar ebony veneer
3. Interlocking glass shelves
Checking out a furniture store with a client one day, Scottsdale interior designer Amy Bubier had a creative epiphany—you might call it a scintillating brain “wave.”

“We saw a shelf on a wall, and what we loved about it was its wavy look,” recalls Bubier. Although the piece itself was not what was needed for her residential project, it was food for thought.

“It was only a single shelf, and we needed a large piece of art for a big family room wall,” the designer says. Her imagination sparked, she conceived a three-panel idea that not only would look like wood sculpture but would hold family photos and cherished items as well.

“I designed it and had furniture maker Son Tran make it,” explains Bubier. Tran “wrapped” Macassar ebony veneer from Africa around the wavy structure he had built, she notes. “And I had him connect the panels with translucent glass shelves.” These overlap and interlock with the vertical panels.

The result, remarks Bubier: “It looks like a triptych of art.”
