Homeowners hailing from the Midwest had this mudroom-like space off their garage fitted with custom built-ins to accommodate all sorts of items that are needed when coming and going.

Included is a shoe pantry, along with drawers for storing garage-door remote controls, sunglasses, car keys and the like. Designed by Cathy Stark, the cabinetry is constructed of alder wood with a crackle finish.

An interior designer, Stark prettied up the space with a painting by Elli Milan and an antique bench, which offers even more storage opportunities under its seat.
