Cielo Azul

Author: Roberta Landman
Issue: November, 2008, Page 139

The master bedroom is a study in subdued elegance. A carved four-poster is dressed with custom floral pillows and crisp linens. At the foot of the bed, a celadon-color loveseat and a fringed leopard-print ottoman continue the feeling of comfort.

The master bath’s groin-vaulted ceiling is accented with wispy faux-painted curlicues, and marble flooring has a geometric pattern. Overhead, a delicate chandelier is draped with crystal. On a ledge of the marble-clad tub, a collection of green celadon pottery adds Asian grace.
Atop stone wainscoting, powder room walls are painted a deep cobalt blue and trimmed luxuriously in a band of gold leaf. The oval window is leaded glass.

The library/study has built-in cherry bookcases and a loft that is accessed via a winding stairway.
The family room’s fireplace wall is clad in stone to the high planked ceiling. Seating in this comfortable space surrounds a huge square ottoman beloved by a tribe of small grandchildren and also includes two large sofas covered in brown mohair velvet. A tiered iron chandelier hangs overhead. French doors open to a covered patio.

Beneath iron-strapped trestle beams, and with an Aubusson needlepoint rug, the formal living room has an old-time drawing room quality and a collected look. The two champagne-colored sofas and blue-and-white-print silk damask chairs came from a former residence and were re-covered. Fringed draperies are silk taffeta. Blue-and-white porcelain pieces around the room have various origins. The Asian ones are in harmony with the Chinese chest-turned-coffee table and with chinoiserie.
