Double Vision

Author: Pam Hait
Issue: September, 2001

Stairs lead to a tub fit for a king or queen in this opulent master bath.
Like the gracious house, the gardens and outdoor areas are complex yet serene. Every interior and exterior space has been designed to invite relaxation and conversation. The owners say they love living in every room, but they especially like their kitchen.
True, they forgot to shrink the house, but that’s the only omission in this Old World masterpiece.

Framed by the formal entry’s elegant travertine staircase and lofty window is an outdoor sculpture garden. Its centerpiece is Winter Rider, a modernistic sculptural rendition of
a figure astride a horse. The work, by artist J.L. Hansen of Portland, Ore., is
set dramatically within a water feature.
