Botanical name: Eremophila prostrata
Plant type: Evergreen ground cover
Blooms: Yellow; tubular shaped
Bloom season: Spring through summer
Mature size: 6 inches high, spreading 8-10 feet
Water needs: Low (monthly in winter; no more than every two weeks in summer)
Where to plant: Full sun to partial shade; blooms more vigorously in partial shade during July and August
When to plant: Spring or fall
Maintenance: Minimal
Note: Local specimens proved cold-hardy during last winter’s severe frost; also can be used as a trailing plant in containers
