When it comes to accessorizing outdoor spaces, don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Something unexpected is often the most alluring. So, why not let your imagination fly and see what transpires.

Colorful, one-of-a-kind cone-shaped pots filled with trailing cacti hang from a tree that also hosts wind chimes, and tin and glass stars. The reproduction iron pot—based on the design of a vintage European urn—serves as a standing planter.

A birdbath gets new life as a shallow receptacle for short-rooted succulents. Stone mulch adds to the naturalistic feel.
A wooden hutch on a covered patio makes a perfect display space for potted cacti and succulents. In this grouping, the homeowner chose a different plant for each pot, yet the hues, shapes and textures of the foliage are complementary.
