Gardening suggestions for harvesting pomegranate fruit

Author: Cathy Cromell
Issue: March, 2014, Page 145

Q - If I remove some of the tiny fruits from my mature pomegranate tree, will it improve fruit size or quality?

A - Thinning some fruit before it develops will help increase the size of the remaining fruit, says MCCE Master Gardener Emeritus Olin Miller. As to improving quality, probably not, but that is a more subjective question. If you plan to extract the juice to make syrup or grenadine, it is less of a chore to render juice from several large fruits than from a bunch of small ones.
