Gardening advice on why your grapefruits are lacking flavor

Author: Cathy Cromell

Q&A ASK ThE EXPERTS

Q. My three-year-old grapefruit tree has produced a number of good-sized fruits, but they are tasteless. Any advice?

A. Give it a little more time, advises MCCE Master Gardener Emeritus Olin Miller. Grapefruit flavor improves as the season progresses and is best around mid-April. For ‘Texas Star Ruby’ grapefruit, the fruit can be left on the tree until the end of April, and to the end of May for other varieties, such as ‘Duncan’ and ‘Marsh’.
