Place sugar cube, orange and cherry in a mixing glass or cocktail shaker. Muddle into a pastelike consistency. Add blood orange juice, agave nectar and tequila; then add ice cubes. Shake vigorously. Place new ice cubes in an Old-Fashioned or rocks glass, or a brandy snifter; strain drink from mixing glass over ice. Garnish with orange flag.

Simple syrup: Combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook 1 minute. Allow to cool.
