Makes 1 cocktail
1 sugar cube soaked in bitters Half an orange slice 1 maraschino cherry ½ ounce blood orange (or regular orange) juice ½ ounce agave nectar or ¾ ounce simple syrup (see recipe below) 1 ½ ounces aƱejo tequila Orange flag (half an orange slice folded around a maraschino cherry held with a cocktail pick), for garnish

| | | Place sugar cube, orange and cherry in a mixing glass or cocktail shaker. Muddle into a pastelike consistency. Add blood orange juice, agave nectar and tequila; then add ice cubes. Shake vigorously. Place new ice cubes in an Old-Fashioned or rocks glass, or a brandy snifter; strain drink from mixing glass over ice. Garnish with orange flag.
Simple syrup: Combine equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook 1 minute. Allow to cool.
