ORTEGA THICK & CHUNKY SALSA
Slightly milder than the other salsas, this one has a dominant tomato flavor and large chunks. Some found it “bland,” “mediocre” and “not very fresh.”
FRONTERA JALAPEÑO CILANTRO SALSA
Full of smoky, roasted flavor, Frontera’s salsa is a clear favorite. Participants said it has a “thick and smooth” texture and offers a “layered” taste.
505 SOUTHWESTERN ORGANIC SALSA
Some labeled this salsa “soupy” and “mushy,” while others called it “nice and chunky.” Most tasted hints of cinnamon, pumpkin and pepper.
EL PINTO SALSA
Offering a “fiery pepper kick,” this salsa is the hottest of the bunch. Nonetheless, the tasters give its chunky consistency a thumbs up.
GOLDWATER’S SEDONA RED SALSA
Although Goldwater’s salsa boasts “a good texture,” some said it tasted vinegary and reminded them of ketchup or tomato purée.
HERDEZ SALSA CASERA
Despite its chunks of tomato and onion, this was deemed “too watery for serious chip-dipping.” Many liked the flavor, but one taster said it “smells funky.”
